This is an evolving project. I’m not done thinking about this yet. Neither is anyone else…
Current Working Standards
1. Always disclose the extent to which AI has been used in the creation of any project.
2. Generally, use AI for the 🔥categories with care, the 🔥🔥 categories with caution, the 🔥🔥🔥 categories rarely/never, and the🔥🔥🔥🔥 categories never.
3. ??
4. ??
5. ??
**Note: I am an adult, not a child, a life-long learner rather than a formal student. These standards apply to me personally. Children and students require more stringent standards.
AI is capable of performing many different kinds of tasks.
Categories – AI tasks, in increasing order of risk.
🔥 Programming & Coding
🔥Training, Learning, Education
🔥🔥Data & Document Analysis
🔥🔥Research & Problem Solving
🔥🔥🔥Brainstorming & Ideation
🔥🔥🔥 Creative writing
🔥🔥🔥🔥Replace Human Relationships, i.e. counselor, companion, friend
The farther down on the list, the less reliance on AI should be the norm.
There are both risks and benefits of AI.
Benefits – The goal in wise use of AI should always be to mitigate effects of the fall.*
Efficiency
Productivity
Help with dangerous or tedious tasks
Medical/scientific advances
Facilitate Kingdom Advancement
Risks – Wise use of AI avoids exacerbation of causes/symptoms of the fall.*
Atrophy of human skills
Trivialization/disembodiment of Imago Dei
Error
Privacy Issues/Surveillance
Intellectual Property Issues
Transparency Issues
Idolatry
Economic/environmental Issues
Issues of Justice/power/inequality
Existential issues
Unintended consequences
Deepfakes
*I am indebted to AiG for this language around the Fall.
Resources
- Answers in Genesis (AiG) video Danger Ahead? – This is a thorough discussion of AI issues from a very conservative Christian group. I found this very helpful, and have relied on it substantially in my exploration for personal and faith-based standards.
- Language of God 3-part series on AI – Very helpful information here. A conservative Christian group with a science/faith orientation.
- National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) recent statement on AI.
- Together for the Gospel’s (TGC) recent statement Our Line in the Sand on AI: TGC’s Missional Opportunity – a not surprisingly rigid protocol for TGC writers from this conservative reformed Christian organization.
- Magnifica Humanitas – Pope Leo’s May 2026 Encyclical on AI. There’s a lot of good stuff here, although I’m only about a quarter of the way through it. Stay tuned…
Note: AI was not used in the creation of this content. AI assisted with the WordPress process (Programming & Coding, and Training, Learning, Education).
