Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to have arrived suddenly, with all the force of a tsunami. Reports of rogue agentic AI, with calls for regulation and safeguards abound. Besides the obvious questions, I’m interested in the potential intersections of my faith with AI. I’ve been dabbling with ChatGPT, wondering what my own personal guardrails should be. To that end, I’m working on a personal Statement of Use, in which I’m developing what safe practices I will personally use to ensure integrity, safety, and efficacy in my interactions with AI. As a person of faith, I feel strongly that safe practices ought to cover theological considerations and implications. I’m creating a Bibliography of Resources as I go. Below are some links that I have found useful and informative, with a few general resources thrown in at the end. This is a preliminary list, I’ll add to it as I find more. Please feel free to suggest others in the comments!
Faith Resources
The BioLogos Language of God podcast just recently started a new series on AI called AI & Human Flourishing. I’ve listened to the first 2 episodes, as well as an older podcast from 2023 that is an “interview” with ChatGPT. I particularly appreciated the historical sketch of the development of AI in Episode 217.
217. AI & Human Flourishing | The Machine
216. AI & Human Flourishing | The Human
137. ChatGPT | AI on Faith & Science
This is a surprisingly not terrible resource from Answers in Genesis. Decent information, as well as a thoughtful list of spiritual guardrails. Please note, I do not recommend much of anything else from this organization.
This is the best thing I’ve looked at so far, from Pope Leo. Reading through it slowly and carefully.
This is a policy statement from TGC on the use of AI in creative writing. I’m ruminating on this. I agree with much of it, but not all of it.
NAE and BioLogos participated in the Rome Call for AI Ethics at the Vatican in October 2025. The University of Notre Dame, as a recent recipient of a Lily Endowment grant on AI, was also well-represented.
The Good Faith Podcast has a good handful of episodes on AI. I haven’t listened to all of them, but I listened to this one with Andy Crouch discussing potential changes in college majors that may result from AI, and found it thought-provoking.
I haven’t looked too closely at this resource from Notre Dame, https://delta.nd.edu/. Geared towards recommendations for higher education.
General Resources
This Advisory Opinions episode re-enacted SCOTUS debate on Heller vs. DC from a script created by ChatGPT. I found it both entertaining and educational. A good example of what ChatGPT can do.
