I embarked on a free lance project to analyze Trump’s July 16 speech on Election Security, as well as the 68 related documents that were declassified.
As expected, the declassified documents were a big nothing burger. There’s no evidence of election fraud significant enough to materially affect the outcome of any election, past, present, or future.
The most concerning thing is the vulnerabilities of the underlying systems to hacking, and the fact that China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea have gathered voter data that is readily accessible. But again, quoting from one the documents, “Systems that tabulate, transmit, or display election results are vulnerable to localized exploitation but would be difficult to manipulate on a wide enough scale to alter the election outcome.”
Trump used the speech to defend the SAVE Act. Unfortunately, the SAVE Act doesn’t address these issues, and there are Constitutional issues with it besides. Hence the bipartisan reluctance to pass it in the Senate.
My conclusion: Trump’s 7/16 speech was just another lot of lies and deception, as evidenced by the documents themselves.
