Beach Glass

By mosessister, April 27, 2017

A couple weekends back, my husband and I biked to The.Lake.  While hiking around the Lake Bluff beach, I found my first ever beach glass!!  I was thrilled!!

If you don’t know what beach glass is, there are several cool websites to help, here and here.  Also tons of examples on Pinterest, which I won’t link here.

The 2 small pieces that I found probably date to the 60’s, a period in history when soft drinks were sold in green glass bottles. The smooth frosty finish from being tumbled in the waters of The.Greatest.Lake for decades reminds me of how God is finishing me, tumbling me through suffering, trials, and discipline to perfect and finish my faith. (Heb 12:2).

One of my favorite songs from delirious? uses river imagery to describe the work of God in our lives.  Here are the lyrics:

Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I’ve walked against the water
Now I’m waiting if you please

We’ve longed to see the roses
But never felt the thorns
And bought our pretty crowns
But never paid the price

Find me in the river
Find me there
Find me on my knees with my soul laid bare
Even though you’re gone and I’m cracked and dry
Find me in the river, I’m waiting here

Find me in the river
Find me on my knees
I’ve walked against the water
Now I’m waiting if you please

We didn’t count on suffering
We didn’t count on pain
But if the blessing’s in the valley
Then in the river I will wait

-Martin Smith

Because of God, and the work of His Son Jesus Christ, someday I will be finished more beautifully than beach glass.

I haven’t decided what to do with the 2 small pieces that I found.  I could make jewelry out of them, I could make a collage to display them…and the collector in me wants to go find more.
