Faschingdienstag, Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday.
The gorge before the fast. I’ve had my carnival pastry (paczki) and my favorite pie from Baker’s Square, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, of course. I’m ready to fast.
I was introduced to Fasching in Germany. The Officers’ Club in Schweinfurt always had a big bash. As conservative Baptists, my family never observed Lent, and certainly not Carnival. (Even though feasts and fasts are quite Biblical.) So my first was an experience I won’t soon forget. :>
I was introduced to paczkis by a plant manager who brought paczkis for the entire plant (200+ employees) every Mardi Gras. In yet another company, my friend Pat Murphy (may he rest in peace) brought paczkis for the entire office.
Satiation is not a half bad motivation for temperance. Let’s pray it works this year. In all things. Amen.
