Bibliography for the Christian Social Imperative

By mosessister, November 26, 2017

If you’ve been convicted, as I have, about Christian social responsibility, you need to get yourself informed.  Here is a selected bibliography of books that I recommend.  Many of these books were required/recommended reading at TEDS, many more are ones I’ve stumbled across in my search for the best voices on social issues, both secular and religious.  I will add more as I encounter them.

  • Divided By Faith, Christian Smith & Michael Emerson, Oxford University Press, 2000
  • Disunity in Christ, Christena Cleveland, IVP, 2013
  • More than Just Race: Being Black and Poor in the Inner City, William Julius Wilson, Norton, 2009
  • The Myth of Equality, Ken Wytsma, IVP, 2017
  • Just Mercy:  A Story of Justice and Redemption, Bryan Stevenson, Spiegel & Grau, 2015
  • Prophetic Lament: A Call for Justice in Troubled Times, Soong-Chan Rah, IVP, 2015
  • Roadmap to Reconciliation, Brenda Salter McNeil, IVP, 2016
  • The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander, The New Press, 2010
  • Welcoming the Stranger, Matthew Soerens & Jenny Hwang Yang, IVP, 2010
